The Ukrainian Research Institute of Social and Forensic Psychiatry and Drug Abuse of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine was founded in 1984 as a Ukrainian branch of the All-Union Research Institute of General and Forensic Psychiatry named after V.  Serbskiy. Today, he is the main institution of the state in the field of social and forensic psychiatry, as well as one of the leading consultative-diagnostic and medical centers of Ukraine.

The main goal of the Institute is to promote the organization of the system of mental health, to develop modern scientifically based methods of prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with mental health problems, with a view to restoring their full functioning in society.

The Institute has created conditions for effective scientific work: postgraduate studies, doctoral studies, specialized council for the defense of doctoral and candidate's dissertations on the specialty "Psychiatry". We maintain scientific contacts with many institutions of mental health in Ukraine and abroad, in particular: Germany, Great Britain, Lithuania, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Poland and other countries.
